2. 100 Days of Grace and Gratitude Book

I’ve been using the book 100 Days of Grace and Gratitude to get a head start on my gratitude focus, and this is a great devotional book.

Each day gives a short devotional thought, key Bible verses, and space to journal your thoughts. The book is optional for participating in The Holy Mess Gratitude Challenge, but this is a great resource if you decide to invest in it.

Turn Grumbling into Gratitude

Experts in recent years have come to recognize the fact that focusing on gratitude helps people live happier lives and even live longer.

As Christians, we know that gratitude goes deeper than a daily reflection about the good things in life. All thanks and gratitude are for God, the Source of all goodness.

Consider Psalm 145:2-3,

Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.

Gratitude is thanking God for specific blessings, plus honoring God for who He is as your loving Heavenly Father who is worthy of all praise.

How to Focus on Gratitude

There’s no wrong way to be grateful, but the practice might feel a bit awkward if you aren’t used to thinking this way.

To think of something each day that you are thankful for, consider some of these categories:

  • Big blessings (family, home, freedom)
  • Tiny little blessings (warm sunshine, finding a parking space)
  • People and relationships
  • Material blessings
  • Provision such as house, food, clothing, money in the bank

If you are up for a challenge, considering thanking God for some of these:

  • Life problems and struggles
  • God’s attributes and character
  • Ways you trust God to provide in the future
