“How do you do it all?”
People often ask me how I juggle the many aspects of my life. Wife. Mom to 5 kids ranging in age from 18 to 5 years old. One child with significant emotional and behavioral needs. One child with behavior issues and a serious metabolic condition. Managing special diet needs in our family. Pastor’s wife. Maintaining my weight loss and exercise schedule. Speaking and writing.
My response is always the same. “I have no idea!”
This isn’t a flippant answer. It is not by my own power I accomplish these things but only by the power of the Holy Spirit working in me that good things are done. Many days it doesn’t quite seem real to me either when I look at my calendar. When I look back at my life so far, amazing experiences and relationships, I think wow, this has been one heck of a life! I’m so blessed! I can’t wait to live the rest of the years!
A few years ago this important principle came to me:
Part of the human experience is your to-do list will never be complete.
If you had nothing on your to-do list, you would be dead.
How often do we say, “Once I get this done, then I can finally relax.” or “Once we have this accomplished, then life will get so much easier.” But doesn’t something else always take its place? Accept there will always be more. Look at your jobs and tasks as part of why you are here. These are not what you are crossing off to finally move on to the next thing. This is what God created you for!
Phillipians 2:13
“…for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”
