Sometimes, a small thing can bring so much happiness.
Like, a set of keys.
We bought a new (old) house today.
We’ve been in the process of purchasing the house for several months now. We discovered that purchasing a house in the state of New York takes longer than in many other parts of the country. It’s not unusual for the date of the first closing to come and go, with no set of keys in sight for the anxious would-be home owners, but finally today’s the day.
After moving from Colorado, and living in a small apartment for months during the transition, we are excited to get settled in and make this home. I’ll be sharing pictures of the transformation as we move in.
The house is over 100 years old and has character. It has been totally re-done inside and we love it! We are still adjusting to how different it is from our Colorado house.
Come on inside for a tour!

I love that the new house has the beautiful original front door. That wild child behind it is very excited to get into our new house.

Stained glass window by our front door

This gift was waiting for us on the kitchen counter for us from guys who remodeled the house. So sweet!
Our new home in New York:
Living Room (front of house)
Dining Room
I love the stained glass window and original front door.
Bedroom #1 (is off Dining Room)
Hallway — Upstairs has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom
Kitchen
The kitchen is definitely what sold us on this house. I love the remodel and all the bright, beautiful space. Brent, who I’m talking to in this photo, is one of the men who remodeled the house.
The downstairs bathroom is off the kitchen.
These photos are of the pantry in the kitchen. Hooray for a huge kitchen pantry!
There is a second porch off the kitchen. The driveway is long and leads to a detached garage behind the house.
Downstairs Bathroom
Stairs leading to basement and backyard.

The slats that make up the garage storage area floor are old sled runners.
We live about a 10 minute walk away from the Canal. The kids went trick or treating by the river this year.
Sara, Your home is beautiful!!! I LOVE homes with character and a story. So warm and inviting. May our Lord shower this home with love, grace and joy. Darlene Botts,LCOS, DE
Congratulations to you and your family. Your home is beautiful. Thank you for the tour. I loved it! Blessings as you adjust to your new neighborhood, and may you make good friendships that will last a lifetime.
Thanks so much Lori! We are loving our new home.
This is a beautiful house. Enjoy it
I love it! I am jealous of that porch…and the stained glass. The kitchen looks magnificent. I pray that you will be blessed with many happy years there.
Cathy
P.S. Who knew you had a Texas Roadhouse in NY?
It looks beautiful Sara! So excited for you and your family. You will have so much fun this winter making it your home!
I love it and can’t wait to visit! The porch is awesome! Hope you can find a place for a porch swing. Not every house/porch calls for a swing like this one. The stained glass is beautiful and the kitchen is, well, magnificent!!!! Hope the move-in goes well! God bless your new house.
Thank you! Either a porch swing or some good rocking chairs are definitely in order come springtime.
Love the tour, Sara, these old homes are solid and the chance to remodel has enhanced it even more! Great choice! Live near so many shopping areas, and the festivals that go on there, you can walk to!
There are so many festivals here. We have been surprised and excited. We can’t wait to check them all out. 🙂
Beautiful home, Sara! Congratulations to you and your family!! Enjoy setting it up and getting everything settled in BEFORE the holidays!!!
Excited for all of you. Enjoy the space and making new family memories.
I love it! Our house was built in 1925, and I love the character. I can’t imagine how relieved you must be to get out of that apartment!
Wonderful! So happy for you- moving in and making a new place your own is such fun! I love old houses the best.
Me, too! Our house in Indiana was over 100 years old, too. I love the character. We put an offer on one house that had a walk-up attic. Unfortunately that house didn’t work out, but I sure did love that attic. The long bedroom in this house used to be an attic and was converted into a bedroom.
What a great house, Sara! Very jealous of your kitchen!
I am super-excited about the kitchen. It’s huge! It’s so nice and new. I am looking forward to cooking some great meals here.
Thank you for the tour, I love old houses! You are very brave to move across the country. My husband and I moved from Olympia Washington to Vancouver, Washington and we thought it was a big deal. Welcome home!
It *is* a big deal to move, no matter how far. It’s an ordeal whether it’s across town or across states, for sure.
Congrats to you and your family, so blessed to have such a nice home and beautiful surroundings.
Thank you, Pam. We can’t wait to get moved in and make it home.
Congratulations! Your house is adorable and I can’t wait to see updates on how you make it your home ?
Thank you, Anita! We are excited to get moved in and settled.
