Are You Stuck?
Last week I watched a TV show in which the characters got lost in the woods during a camping trip. They called for help. While they were waiting for help to come, they lost cell phone reception. They stayed where they were for awhile, then they got anxious. They got up and started trekking out to find help.
What’s the cardinal rule we tell people for should they ever get lost in the woods, and they know rescuers are looking for them?
Stop and stay where you are. Help is coming. Your rescuers cannot find you if you keep moving.
In the TV show, in classic fashion, the rescuers arrived at the scene just moments after the group had left.
What problem are you wrestling with right now? Have you been mulling, worrying, fretting, and pondering about it for ages? Do you feel like a deer caught in the headlights — completely stuck yet exhausted from the struggle?
The First Step When You are Stuck.
Stop and stay where you are. Helping is coming.
It seems completely backwards to say STOP when you have been stuck for so long, doesn’t it? Yet STUCK does not mean still. Mulling, worrying, fretting, and pondering is an awful lot of action. It’s just not productive action.
God is your rescue. Consider what this verse says about what God does,
Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
Psalm 82:3-4
Perhaps, God is waiting for you to look up to Him in trust.
Are you looking down in worry and fretting so much that you cannot see God’s hand that is offered in front of you? Or, are you running away from your rescuers, trying to find your own way? Are you lost wondering in the woods?
Stop. Wait. God will rescue. Then the next step will become clear as He leads you exactly on the path where you should go.
Looking back, do you see how God has rescued you from previous difficult situations that felt hopeless and impossibly STUCK? Are you ready for God’s rescue today?
