Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs are not difficult to make and peel like a dream. IP eggs are the perfect-sized snack to grab for a healthy, filling protein option.
Pack boiled eggs in lunches or use as an on-the-go breakfast. Add eggs to a salad for lunch or dinner. No matter how you use them, you’ll be thrilled with how easy it is to make hard boiled eggs in your Instant Pot.
While hard boiling eggs in your Instant Pot isn’t necessarily faster than other methods, I believe it’s the easiest to get right every single time.
Once you get the process down, it really is as simple as set it and take the eggs out when the timer goes off.
Plus, the best part is the eggs peel perfectly. No more struggling to remove the eggshell or losing part of the whites when you try to peel them and ending up with a bunch of ugly hard boiled eggs.
Enjoy the eggs as a snack or use them in a recipe like our WW zero point egg salad.

How To Make Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs
Here’s everything you need to know about pressuring cooking eggs that turn out great every time.
How long do I boil eggs in the Instant Pot?
Pressure cooker hard boiled eggs are actually steamed and not boiled. Cooking times may vary a little from one pressure cooker to another and will be different based on how cooked you prefer like your egg yolks.
Use this as a general guide.
- Three minutes for soft-boiled eggs
- Four to six minutes for medium-boiled eggs
- Six to eight minutes for hard-boiled eggs.
For the best hard-boiled Instant Pot eggs, I recommend the 6-6-6 method.
Instant Pot 6-6-6 Method for Hard Boiled Eggs
Here’s the 6-6-6 method.
- Cook eggs, with 1 cup water, in Instant Pot for 6 minutes on “egg” or “pressure cook”.
- Allow to natural release for 6 minutes.
- Place into an ice bath for 6 minutes to cool.
That’s all there is to it!
How many eggs can you hard boil in Instant Pot?
Your Instant Pot will hold a lot of eggs for hard-boiling.
This blogger tested it and they were able to boil 78 eggs in their Instant Pot. WOW! What would you do with all of those Instant Pot boiled eggs? The size of your Instant Pot to determine how many eggs you can make.
Generally speaking, about one dozen large eggs will fit in the 6-quart Instant Pot.
Arrange the eggs on the trivet that came with your Instant Pot. If you want to do layers or hold the eggs vertically while cooking to center the yolks (great for deviled eggs), you can use a stackable egg rack or simply stack the eggs on top of one another, taking care not to allow eggs to touch the bottom or sides of the pressure cooker.
How do I use the egg setting on my Instant Pot?
Because pressure cooker eggs are steamed and not boiled, you only need to add a cup of water to the Instant Pot, rather than completely covering the eggs with water as you would when boiling them on the stove top.
I have found that pressure cooking the eggs is what makes them easier to peel than boiling them. With this method, I usually do not get a green ring around the yolk. (Note that the green ring is not harmful to eat, but it doesn’t look appealing.)
The newer Instant Pot models have Instant Pot egg settings to make this even easier. If you don’t have an egg setting, no problem. Simply follow our instructions.
Instructions for Hard Boiling Eggs in the Instant Pot
- Insert an Instant Pot Egg Rack, steamer rack or trivet into the inner pot.
- Add 1 cup of water.
- Arrange 6-12 large eggs on the rack. (Or more, depending on the size of your Instant Pot.)
- Close and lock the lid.
- Set the pressure cooker to the “egg” or “manual” setting. Set the time to 6 minutes. Then press start.
- Fill a large bowl with ice water to make an ice bath for the eggs.
- When the timer goes off, allow the eggs to naturally release (don’t touch anything and allow the timer to count up) for an additional 6 minutes.
- Release pressure and remove lid.
- Use silicone tongs to take the eggs out of the Instant Pot and place them into the ice bath to stop the cooking.
Can eggs touch in Instant Pot?
You can stack eggs on the rack, but eggs should not touch the water or walls of the instant pot.
Why did my eggs turn brown in Instant Pot?
If your white eggs turn brown in the Instant Pot it’s likely due to overcooking. Be sure to remove your eggs after 6 minutes of naturally releasing the pressure, and place eggs immediately into an ice water bath to stop the cooking process.
Should you store hard boiled eggs peeled or unpeeled?
Unpeeled and peeled boiled eggs can be kept in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Store unpeeled boiled eggs in an egg carton or bowl in the refrigerator. Peeled, boiled eggs should be stored in an airtight container with a damp paper towel covering the peeled eggs.
