7 Apps That Pay You for Weight Loss
Here are 7 apps that pay you to lose weight in 2019 and beyond. Check them out and find one that will work for you. Keep scrolling to find our explanation of how each app works.
- HealthyWage
- Diet Bet
- StickK
- Achievement

- Walgreens Balance Rewards
HealthyWage
Several apps I reviewed were diet betting apps. In other words, you start by putting in some money (typically $10-25, so not a huge amount), which means you bet that you will lose the weight you set out to lose.
If you don’t lose, you lose your money which is a motivator for you to stick to your goal. If you win, you split the pot with others who also accomplished their weight loss goal, and almost always more than the amount you put in, since not everyone in your group will lose weight.
There are a number of weight loss betting apps, and Healthy Wage is the most popular.
HealthyWage works by placing a bet on how much weight you think you can lose in a set period of time. If you meet your goal, you receive a check or PayPal deposit.
Depending on how much you bet and what your goals are, you earn as much as $1,000.
David Roddenberry, cofounder of HealthyWage says the company keeps 25 cents on every dollar that is collected, and users come back and complete multiple challenges.
“Participants find value from the supportive community, coaching, and infrastructure, so they will frequently try again,” he says.
Research proves that risk can be a real motivator. People don’t want to lose the money they have put forward and that is motivation to keep going.
Diet Bet
Similar in format to Healthy Wage, with Diet Bet you can join in on diet bet groups with strangers or create your own group with friends and family.
Diet Bet gives you three options for weight loss bets:
- Kickstarter (Lose 4% in 4 weeks)
- Transformer (Lose 10% in 6 months)
- Maintainer (Keep it off for 12 months)
Diet Bet says that most players bet an average of $25 a month and 95% or more are successful in achieving their goals.
StickK
Similar to Healthy Wage and Diet Bet, this app allows you to place a bet on your weight loss – what they call a commitment contract.
A Commitment Contract is a binding agreement you sign with yourself to ensure that you follow through with your intentions—and it does this by utilizing the psychological power of loss aversion and accountability to drive behavior change.By asking our users to sign Commitment Contracts, stickK helps users define their goal (whatever it may be), acknowledge what it’ll take to accomplish it, and leverage the power of putting money on the line to turn that goal into a reality.
Achievement
Unlike other apps where you are required to place bets, achievement rewards you for your healthy habits. By tracking your diet, step count, and other information, you can start earning rewards that can translate into gift cards and even cash.
You can get paid through direct deposit or PayPal using this app.
Make it even easier by connecting Achievement to several different popular apps like the one you use for your Fitbit, Strava, Garmin, MyFitnessPal, and more, so tracking your healthy habits is easy.
Higi
Higi has kiosks at pharmacies, grocery stores and other retail locations that allow you to track your health numbers.
While you don’t get paid directly for tracking, you do get rewards for tracking your blood pressure and other vital health statistics.
All information loaded into Higi is kept secure and follows HIPPA guidelines.
Walgreens Balance Rewards Program
Many of us have used the Walgreens Rewards system, but did you know that you can link this program with your Fitbit or other health tracking device and get additional Walgreens rewards?
Here is the link to sign up for the Walgreens Healthy Rewards feature. If you shop or get prescriptions at Walgreens, you know those rewards do add up over time, which leads to cash in your pocket.
Charity Miles
You won’t see the money in your pocket with this app, but you can donate money to charity through it.
Charity miles tracks the distance you run, cycle, or walk, and based on your distance will donate to a charity of your choice. For every mile you move, you earn money for your charity from the app’s corporate sponsorship pool.
As I mentioned, this won’t earn you money directly, but you can earn money for a charity of your choice.
Bonus – More Ways to Get Paid to Lose Weight
Here are a couple other bonus ideas of ways to get paid to lose weight.
Teach a class.
Are you great with Yoga or Zumba? Put together a class yourself or attend an instructor training, and earn some money while you exercise. This can be a great way to shed a few pounds and earn an income in the process.
Get together with moms in your area or grab a few friends and workout together. The accountability alone can be a game changer.
Contact your health insurance provider.
Health insurance companies want to provide insurance for healthy individuals. Healthy people get sick less often and tend to not use their insurance nearly as often.
From gym membership reimbursements to diet plan waivers, your insurance can give you money or prizes for creating healthy habits. BlueCross and BlueShield even have healthy deals available to help you save money on everything you need to stay fit. Contact your health insurance provider to see what kind of money you can earn just by living a healthy lifestyle.
You don’t have to turn to a high calorie treat in order to reward your self for losing weight. With these 7 apps that pay you to lose weight, you can start earning money while losing weight too.
