Answers To Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some questions we often receive about this breakfast recipe.
What Should I Eat with the Copycat McGriddle?
Fresh fruit alongside your breakfast sandwich is always a great choice, is low in calories, and zero points for Weight Watchers members.
These sandwiches are delicious along with a cup of hot coffee.
Note that the nutritional information for this recipe includes one whole batch (4-6 pancakes) of Cottage Cheese pancakes, but you’ll only use 2 for the sandwich. Eat the extra with breakfast or have them as a snack later in the day.
How Long Does the McGriddle Last?
The pancakes or mini-waffles can be stored in your refrigerator for 3-4 days, although we recommend assembling the sandwiches fresh when you are ready to eat them to prevent them from becomming soggy.
You could use this recipe as a meal prep by freezing the copycat McGriddle sandwiches for when you need to grab a breakfast to go.
The best way to do this is to assemble the sandwiches, lay them on a baking sheet and flash-freeze them. After they are frozen, place into a freezer-safe container or zipper bag to grab just one or a bunch for a quick and easy breakfast or snack.
Reheat by wrapping in a paper towel and cook in the microwave for 1 minute, turn, and heat 1 minute more.
Is This Recipe Easy?
While this recipe takes a bit of time to prepare (since you make the pancakes from scratch), it only takes a few minutes with the help of your blender.
Here are some tips and tricks to help you make this recipe a success:
- To make the egg patty: scramble the egg in a bowl by beating with a fork. Cook the egg in a skillet or a coffee mug (spray with cooking spray) in the microwave for 45 seconds.
- If desired, you can cut the egg into a round shape with a cookie cutter or the top of a glass.
- If you don’t have time to make pancakes, you can substitute Hungry Jack frozen mini-pancakes. Adjust points or calories as needed. You can also use a high-protein pancake mix such as Kodiak or Trader Joe’s or Aldi’s protein pancake mix.
Copycat McDonalds McGriddle Sandwich Recipe (with Step-by-Step Instructions & Photos)
Here is a how-to guide for making these mouthwatering sandwiches.
Step 1 – Gather equipment & ingredients
You’ll need a blender (either full-sized or hand-held) and a small skillet. You can also use a mini-waffle maker like a Dash to make small waffle-shaped “buns”, as shown here.
Either pancakes or mini-waffles work equally well to make these sandwiches. Personally, I prefer the mini-waffle variation because I like how they get crispy and crunchy.
Step 2 – Mix & prepare the pancakes or waffles
Combine all the ingredients in the blender and blend for about 30 seconds. This works well in a mini-blender like a Magic Bullet, but a full-sized blender can also be used. You might need to scrape the sides several times.
Do not over blend – only mix until combined.
The mixture should be the consistency of a very thick smoothie. It will be thicker than a typical pancake mix. Allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes for baking powder to activate.
Heat a skillet to medium to medium-low (lower than you would use for regular pancakes) heat. Spray pan with cooking spray if needed to prevent sticking.
Pour mixture into pancakes, about â…“ cup each. When the top begins to bubble, flip over. Cook until golden brown and serve.
A fun trick is to make these into small waffles in a mini-waffle make. If using a waffle maker, pre-heat the waffle maker and spray generously with cooking spray every time you start a new waffle.
This recipe make 4-6 pancakes or 4-5 mini-waffles.
Step 3 – Prepare Sandwich Fillings and Assemble
Now it’s time to assemble your sandwiches.
- Heat turkey sausage as indicated on the package.
- Make an egg patty. (See notes above for tips.)
Now, assemble the sandwiches.
To assemble a sandwich, take 2 pancakes. Drizzle 2 pancakes with syrup.
Top one pancake (syrup on the inside) with sausage, cheese, and egg. Add remaining pancake as the top of the sandwich, and you are ready to eat.
If desired, serve extra syrup on the side for dipping.
