We start this final reading of our RADICAL Blessings session in a bit of an unusual place — Christmas morning, with the shepherds.
We are here because this gives us such an amazing picture of God’s glory. When one angel and then a multitude appear to the shepherds, it’s almost as if a corner is pulled back and we get a chance to peer into heaven to see the glory of God. Imagine what it might have looked like!
And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
‘Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.’Luke 2:9-14
RADICAL Glory: How to Light Yourself on Fire with Passion
Keeping that same image of the angels visiting the shepherds in mind, read this passage from 2 Corinthians 3.
Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech— unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:12-18
The glory of the Lord is within us as people redeemed by Christ. The same amazing glory that was visible to the shepherds is the glory that is within each one of us.
Talk about radical! How can our lives ever be the same?
Light yourself on fire with passion and people will come from miles around to watch you burn.
–John Wesley
We think about the men who met Jesus on the road to Emmaus after the resurrection. They did not recognize Jesus until he broke bread with them at the evening meal. Then their eyes were opened and Luke 24:32 says, “They said to each other,’Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?'”
Your RADICAL Calling
God is calling you to something amazing.
What is the passion in your heart? What is that thing you long to do, but fear holds you back?
Do you want to write a book? Go in a mission trip? Adopt a child? Start a new career? Take up a new hobby? Run a marathon?
I challenge you to take a step toward your calling.
If you are afraid, that is okay. Just don’t let it stop you.
If you feel unequipped, remember you might not be equipped yet, but you will be when the time comes. God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called.
Move forward boldly, knowing God’s glory is burning brightly within you!
