At The Holy Mess, Jesus Christ is the foundation of all that we do. We believe your weight loss journey starts not with a meal plan or food checklist, but with what you believe about God, yourself, and your body. This Statement of Faith for The Holy Mess and The Holy Weigh describes where we stand, so you know what you’re building on before you take the next step with us.
What We Believe About God and the Christian Faith
- We believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Creator and Sustainer of all things.
- We believe in Jesus Christ, true God and true man, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered, was crucified, died, and was buried. He rose again, ascended into heaven, and will return to judge the living and the dead.
- We believe salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. All people are born sinful and unable to save themselves. Through Christ’s death and resurrection, we are forgiven, declared righteous, and given new life, not by works but by God’s mercy.
- We believe the Holy Spirit creates and strengthens faith through the Word and produces good works in us, not to earn God’s love, but because we already have it.
- We believe Holy Scripture, the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired and authoritative Word of God and the final standard for faith and life.
What We Believe About Christian Weight Loss and the Body
- We believe the body is a gift from God and a temple of the Holy Spirit. It belongs to the Lord who redeemed us, and it is our responsibility to steward during our life on earth.
- Scripture is not a diet manual, but it guides how we live, eat, and steward our health. Gluttony and self indulgence distort God’s good gifts, yet change does not come through shame. Conviction leads to repentance. Repentance leads to grace. Grace leads to transformation.
- Lasting change flows from a renewed heart through the power of Christ, not guilt, fear, or willpower alone. We are not defined by the number on the scale but by our identity in Christ.
- We believe growth reflects the rhythm of sanctification. We pursue health as an act of stewardship and worship, trusting God to heal us physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
- We believe prayer, wise nourishment, sustainable habits, and movement are tools of stewardship. We reject extremes and embrace faithful daily obedience.
- We believe that only Christ satisfies Soul Hunger. Health centered on Jesus becomes worship, not self obsession.
The Place of Our Devotions, Resources, and Weight Loss Membership Program Within the Christian Life
- The Holy Weigh, our women’s Christian weight loss program, is a discipleship resource, not a church. We strongly encourage corporate worship, Baptism, Holy Communion, and active participation in a local congregation.
- Our programs and resources do not replace personal Bible study. Readers and members are encouraged to remain rooted in Scripture and seek counsel from a pastor or trusted spiritual mentor.
- The practices we teach are matters of Christian freedom and wisdom, not requirements for salvation or measures of faith. We offer guidance, not legalism.
- Scripture affirms fasting, but due to common histories of disordered eating, we generally recommend fasting from non-food items.
- All readers are welcome. The Holy Mess and The Holy Weigh are unapologetically Christ centered, standing firmly on Scripture while extending grace and respect to all.
Because of Christ, you’re loved, forgiven, and free. Out of gratitude, you are choosing to steward the body God has given you.
Welcome to a different kind of weight loss journey.
