Pray this prayer for weight loss with me and turn your food choices, body, and health over to God for ultimate power, strength, and healing. Perhaps you want to turn to God for help when it comes to food but you aren’t exactly sure how to go about it. Maybe you’ve never thought to include God in your healthy eating choices. Yet God cares about every aspect of your life, including what you eat.
Weight Loss with God’s Power is Possible
Have you ever felt like weight loss seems like an impossible task? I know I sure have. For much of my adult life, I was 100 pounds overweight.
I tried all the diets. I could lose weight, often as much as 40-50 pounds, but eventually the pounds would come back and I would end up heavier than ever. You can read my 100 pound weight loss story here, but let me assure you that it is absolutely possible to lose weight and keep it off.
Weight loss will happen for you and when we rely on God’s strength, you’ll be able to find a food freedom you never knew was possible.

Weight Loss Prayers – Losing Weight God’s Way
My weight loss journey involved a number of tools that helped me lose weight and keep it off the final time.
Here’s some of what was involved:
- Therapy. Read about therapy for weight loss here.
- Weight Watchers. I’ve done meetings and online and found I really enjoy the WW online program for counting points to give me structure and accountability. I still use the WW program today.
- Prayer and Bible study. It’s incredibly important for me to continually renew my trust in God as I make choices each day. By my own power I fall down, but with God’s power I can do so much.
I’ve been maintaining my weight for 15+ years. It’s not easy, but it’s absolutely worth it and I living life at my goal weight is a real miracle.
Today I run an online Christian weight loss program for women called Faithful Finish Lines. Come check us out! Together with my business partner Becky, who has also lost 100 pounds, we lead women through weight loss while keeping Christ at the center of your journey.
Below is a prayer I wrote for weight loss and I encourage you to say it along with me today.
I know many of us are looking for that one miracle solution that will solve our weight loss problems. I’m here to tell you it doesn’t exist! Instead, weight loss with God’s help is a continual communication with your Heavenly Father throughout each day.
Still, it’s helpful to have a guide as you ask for God’s help to lose weight and approach weight loss Biblically.

Lord, I ask for your help with my weight, my food choices, and my health. So many times, I have given in to the sin of overeating. I’m sorry. Please forgive me and help me turn to a new, healthier way.
Thank you for your grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Help me walk in the new life you have given me and bring my weight to a healthy place. Guide my choices today.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Bible Verses for Weight Loss
In addition to praying, it’s so important to ground yourself in the truth of God’s Word for your weight loss journey.
This post with 20 Bible verses for weight loss goes into this in a deeper way, but here are a few verses that have been especially meaningful to me as I’ve lost weight and been maintaining my weight.
Your Body is a Temple
This verse is helpful for me as I remember that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. My weight loss process and my spiritual life are not two separate paths but instead are deeply connected.
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
You Are God’s Handiwork
When you are overweight, it’s so easy to get down on yourself and talk about your life and body in a negative way. Yet God’s Word says something different, which is that you are God’s handiwork.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
Fruit of Righteousness
Making the right decisions can be painful in the moment. I want the chocolate cake now. I want to lie on the couch instead of get up and go for a walk. This verse reminds me that the results of self-discipline will be worth it when I feel peaceful and content because I followed God’s plans for me instead of my own selfish desires.
For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11
Speak God’s Word Out Loud
I also believe a helpful tool in your Christian weight loss process is speaking aloud God’s word along with affirmations of truth. Click here for more help on how to use Christian weight loss affirmations.
Types of Prayers for Weight Loss
Do you want to pray to lose weight, but you aren’t exactly sure just what to ask for? That was me at first, too. I wanted to invite God into my weight loss journey but I didn’t know exactly what to ask for.

Prayer for a Weight Loss Miracle – You might want a quick fix to your weight problems. While it’s true that God could heal you instantly, most of the time He takes you on a longer path where you learn slowly along the way. Still, healing from God (whether slow or fast) is no less of a miracle.
God’s Help for Healthy Diet Choices – Ask God to help you make the decisions that are good for your body and lead to lasting weight loss.
How to Choose the Best Diet for You – These days, the amount of information and diet choices available are simply overwhelming. From Keto to Paleo to Weight Watchers, Noom and more, the options are overwhelming and leave many of us stuck. Have you considered asking God to lead you to which program or plan is best for you?
Ask the Lord to Help You Enjoy Foods to Help You Lose Weight – Why is it that chips and cookies taste so amazing while most of us rarely are tempted to indulge in salads or carrots? You can ask God to help you develop taste buds that desire healthy foods and even crave them.
Pray to Stop Emotional Eating – For many of us, we are overweight not because of the diet plan we follow but because we use food to numb our emotions. When you pray for God’s guidance to stop emotional eating, your whole weight loss process will shift and you will find lasting success.
Grow in Fruits of the Spirit to Gain Self-Control with Food – Losing weight and keeping it off require self-control, which is a gift of the Holy Spirit. Ask the Lord to help you grow in these spiritual blessings for your weight and all areas of your life.
