Are you ready to ask God for a weight loss miracle to happen in your life? When I was 100 pounds heavier and had tried so many diets to lose weight, I thought only some type of crazy miracle would make weight loss happen for me.
Now that I’ve lost the weight and have been maintaining it for years, I’m here to say miracles happen! Read on for a weight loss miracle prayer.
Supernatural Weight Loss Miracles
As I was researching topics for this 7 Days of Weight Loss Prayers series, here are just some of the terms that are commonly searched on Google:
- Supernatural weight loss prayer
- Novena for weight loss
- Patron saint of weight loss
- Angel prayer for weight loss
These phrases give me pause because, as much as I love to help readers, I don’t believe there is one simple prayer we can pray that will somehow magically disappear all our weight loss problems. (Oh, how I wish that were true!)
Yet, God does work miracles in our world today.
How can it be that weight loss doesn’t happen instantly, yet God still works miracles?
Weight Loss and Weight Maintenance are Hard Work
Losing weight is hard work, and maintaining a significant weight loss is no easy street.
If you are someone who has lost weight before only to gain it back, it’s possible you weren’t 100% committed to making your health choices a lifetime change.
I am currently maintaining a 100+ pound weight loss and have been for over a decade.
Consider what my day looks like today.
My alarm went off at 3:55 AM. After my morning devotion and Bible reading time, I planned to write this blog post about weight loss prayer before heading to the gym for a 5:30 AM weight-lifting class. Truthfully, it was cold, dark, and snowy, and I wanted nothing more than to go back to bed. But I got up anyway.
I’ll attend my Weight Watchers meeting and weigh in at 10:00 a.m. today, even though I gained a couple of pounds at Thanksgiving and would rather avoid going.
I’ll come home and eat my lunch of turkey-veggie soup and roasted vegetables, which I meal-prepped this weekend when I would have rather been binge-watching Netflix.
This evening, after dinner, I’ll attend a Tae Kwon Do class with my sons even though I’d prefer to relax at home.
Yes, there’s no doubt that weight loss and maintaining weight are hard work. In our world of Instagram before-and-afters and supposedly easy solutions, we still have to put in the hard work day after day, even when we don’t feel like it.
How Spiritual Motivation to Lose Weight Happens
If weight loss involves so much hard work on our part, how do we become Biblically and spiritually motivated to lose weight with God’s power instead of our own?
This is a gradual process of allowing God to work in your life. As much as I desperately wanted a quick weight loss miracle to fix me instantly, my miracle has been slow and boring.
My weight loss is no less a miracle because it’s only through God’s power that I’ve lost the weight and kept it off. I tried countless times on my own and couldn’t make it stick.
As I’ve worked day after day and made decision after decision, God has developed fruits of the spirit in me, especially self-control.
Here are some of the ways that plays out in daily life.
- I take my thoughts captive to obey Christ.
- I plan to reduce food cravings.
- I recognize that overeating is a sin, and I humbly ask for and receive God’s forgiveness time after time.
- I read Bible verses specifically to grow in the area of better food choices.
- I pray and ask for God’s help daily.
A Prayer for Weight Loss Miracles
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16
Heavenly Father, You are the Great, Almighty, and Most Powerful God. I humbly yet boldly come to your throne requesting a miracle. Will you come to my aid in my food, weight, and health? I cannot do this on my own. Heal me of my food issues and addictions. I pray for your miraculous intervention. Give me the peace that only You can provide. In the name of Jesus, I request this. Amen.
Continue to pray this and other prayers for weight loss, and watch how God transforms you more and more into his image in all areas of your life, including food choices and your weight.

I do believe in miracles but also have to realize that I have to let God be in control. I can try all I want to do it my way, but it has to be up to God to help me on this weight loss journey. And I have decided that it is not just a weight loss, but a lifestyle change that will continue for the rest of my life. Thank you so much for all you have done to help so many people.

If you are someone who has lost weight before only to gain it back, it’s possible you weren’t 100% committed to making your health choices a lifetime change” Sara
Hi Sara, I enjoyed reading your story and the prayers you used to help you in the process of losing 100lbs.
I’m sorry if I sound negative, but I resent comments like those above. I’ve been dealing with being overweight most of my life. It would take too long to list everything I’ve tried. Some went well, some did not. WW was the absolute worst plan for me. Weighing in front of everyone was humiliating, even if I lost that week, then spending the rest of the time discussing recipes caused me to go home and binge. Overeaters Anonymous worked very well for me. I lost weight easily and stayed at my goal weight for many years. I even lost weight after having my son as a single mother.
I gained a great deal of weight after getting married and going through Infertility Treatments. I tried everything to lose the weight again, but it was impossible. Between adjusting to being newly married, all the medications, the stress from not being pregnant each month, and the constant strain of raising an autistic, hyperactive son with many health issues made it impossible for me to lose weight.
After many years of research, I made the decision to have Bariatric Surgery which was the solution I needed. I did very well and felt incredible. Then, I became very ill with multiple health issues and had lots of medications added. I gained a lot of weight rapidly, especially after Synthroid was added and Gabapentin was given to me for pain. I feel like I’ve tried everything. I’m barely able to eat much of anything without getting sick and vomiting. My diet is primarily yogurt, oatmeal, toast, and protein bars. I did NOOM for a year and gained which was extremely disappointing since my husband and friends were incredibly successful with NOOM.
I have tried everything I know of to do using both traditional and alternative methods which has been expensive.
I’m in such horrific pain that I can’t barely walk. My PCP has referred me to a Bariatric Surgeon who has a lot of experience with revisions. I’m afraid that I won’t be able to get help because I recently turned 65 and I keep being told that I’m too old for
life-changing therapies. I’m trying to pray but it’s been difficult because I’m in so much pain that I’m miserable. I can’t hardly do more than walk to the bathroom. It’s so discouraging.
When I hear phrases describing people like me as not being 100% committed, it depresses me, because you don’t have any idea how hard I’ve worked at losing weight, nor how committed I’ve been. I would imagine many people are having the same issues I have.
