Baking your own homemade tortilla chips takes just minutes, and you get hot, fresh, crispy chips that are low in calories and WW points, tasty, and just the way you want them. Here’s a step-by-step method for getting them baked just right.

These delicious homemade tortilla chips take just minutes to prepare and are so much healthier than store-bought chips. Why buy a bag of tortilla chips when you can make your own?
Season your chips just the way you like them, and depending on the type of tortilla you use, you will have a larger serving for fewer WW points or calories.
What to Serve with Homemade Chips
Here are just a few ways to enjoy your chips:
- Make nachos
- Dip them in guacamole
- Dip in salsa
- Serve alongside our Instant Pot Zero Point Salsa chicken.
- Make a healthy dip of zero point Greek yogurt combined with salsa.
- Crush them up and serve them on top of our Healthy Taco Soup.
We made our tortilla chips in air fryer recipe using flour tortillas, but you can use any tortilla. Low carb tortillas, corn tortillas, and regular flour tortillas work well to make chips in the air fryer.
The Best Tortillas for Healthier Homemade Chips
As a weight loss coach and someone maintaining a 100+ pound weight loss, here are my recommendations:
- Joseph’s oat bran and whole wheat flour tortillas – 1 point per tortilla (Tip: the Joseph’s Lavash breads also work well), 80 calories
- Flatout Light flatbreads – 2 points per flatbread, 60 calories
- Low Carb Tortillas, such as Mission Carb Balance – 2 points per tortilla, 110 calories
- Other flour tortillas of your choice – points and calories vary
- Corn tortillas – corn tortillas work well too, but they will need to cook longer in order to reach a crispy texture, about 10-12 minutes.
How to Make Homemade Tortilla Chips – Step by Step
Step 1 – Cut Tortillas into Chips

Stack the number of tortillas you are using and cut them into wedges.
Next, lay them in an air fryer basket or on a cookie sheet. Be sure to leave some space in between them and don’t overlap, especially if you are using an air fryer. In an air fryer, hot air needs to circulate to cook food evenly.
Step 2 – Spray with Cooking Spray (or Brush with Oil)

I give my chips a quick spritz with cooking spray to keep calories and points the lowest.
You can also brush them with oil for a truly authentic Mexican-restaurant-type flavor. Just be sure to adjust points or calories accordingly.
Step 3 – Bake

Whether cooking in an air fryer or an oven, bake for 3 to 4 minutes, turn over, and bake 3 to 4 minutes more. Be sure to watch the first batch carefully, and adjust cooking times if needed. Each air fryer or oven and type of tortilla will need a slightly different cooking time.
