Weight Watchers Vegetable Soup Recipe
Those of us who have been members of Weight Watchers for years know that a “free” vegetable soup, the old Weight Watchers cabbage soup recipe as many of us refer to it, has been part of the program for as long as most of us can remember.
This delicious Weight Watchers soup recipe has stood the test of time because its rich and filling with zero points.
I’ve heard this soup called Weight Watchers Free Vegetable Soup, WW Detox Soup, WW Instant Pot Free Soup, or Cabbage soup, but they are all a similar concept – tons of fresh vegetables and spices cooked together with vegetable broth to bring about a delicious flavor.
These days, the W W Points plan allows members to have your own personalized list of zero point foods, which is amazing! While these foods still do have calories, knowing they are “free” encourages members to eat them on a regular basis.

Cooking this hearty vegetable soup takes just minutes with Instant Pot pressure cooking – 4 minutes to cook and 5 minutes to natural release. Give yourself enough time to chop all those delicious vegetables and the machine will take a bit of extra time to come to pressure, but all of this is worth it for the end result.

Tips for Making WW Zero Point Cabbage Soup
Here are tips for making this delicious, healthy soup.
- This does have small amount of olive oil, but spread throughout the recipe the points are still zero per serving. You can use Pam cooking spray or even water if you prefer in order to sauté vegetables.
- You can use vegetable, chicken, or beef broth in this cabbage soup. I like the rich taste of beef broth the best, but all work well. Many people use a combination of chicken and beef broth to give this an extra-rich flavor. Note that some broth adds points depending on brand.
- This soup can be cooked on the stove top. Follow the same directions and allow to simmer for 30 minutes.
- Feel free to change up vegetables according to your preferences.

Cabbage soup recipe! I used to make this years ago, and it will be so good for the cooler weather. I would even eat it for breakfast.
Joanne Schultz says
Just made this again! ! Got some great prices on reduced-cost veggies! Instead of using cabbage, I substituted 2 bags of a Taylor Farms chopped salad mix that had cabbage & other stuff in it(reduced to $1.69 a bag!). I used a reduced cost pepper mix instead of the pepper/zucchini. Threw in two ½ lb packages of sliced mushrooms that cost 22¢ each! I used Rotel with Hatch peppers to add a little more heat! Oh and I had bought 2 Taylor Farms large vegetable trays with ranch dip – regularly $9.99, but they both had 2 $3 coupons on them, so $4 for each for lots of cut up veggie that I can use for this week’s salads!. I used the celery & some of the carrots from them in my soup! Came out great! I do love a bargain! Added cubed tofu to tonight’s serving for dinner! This soup works great when I need to make sure my weight is ok for WW meeting next week!

Has anyone puréed it?
Sara says
I haven’t heard of anyone trying it, but I bet it would be tasty!
Joanne Schultz says
I know you asked this a year ago. I actually have puréed it when I had my last wisdom tooth pulled and was concerned about that area interacting with food. Tasted great!
Sara says
Thanks for this information! Great to know and share with others.
Elizabeth A Leszczynski says
It says it serves 10….what is the serving size?
Sara says
The serving size here is 1 cup to serve 10 people with this recipe, but just note that in the 3 day diet we use a 2 cup serving size.
Sara says
Hi Elizabeth, A serving is one cup.
