What are Signs and Wonders in the Bible?
Acts 2:22-23 says,
“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.”
Acts 2:22-23 (bold text mine)
This passage in the New Testament book of Acts clearly states that Jesus performed works, wonders, and signs while he was here on earth.
The Old Testament is full of miracles too, such as the parting of the Red Sea, Daniel who was saved in the lion’s den, and Noah’s family and all kinds of animals who were saved from the flood while protected inside the ark.
What Does “I Accept Slow Miracles” Mean?
For years, I prayed for a miracle weight loss and complete healing from all my food and weight problems. I wanted God to instantly heal me.
God did grant my miracle, but it wasn’t on my time table. I like to say it was a slow, boring miracle. Healing came in teeny-tiny baby steps of progress.
Are you willing to accept a slow miracle? Will you allow God to work in His way and divide time?
What is the Difference between a Sign, Wonder and Miracle in Scripture?
Often they are referred together as a way of describing miracles, but they do have some distinction.
- Sign – An event that takes place as an indicator of something else that is happening or will happen. Click here to read more about asking God for a sign.
- Wonder – Wonders are a specific type of miracle that is done to draw people to God or make them “wonder” about Him.
- Miracle – A miracle is an extraordinary event that defies the laws of nature or science.
What is the purpose of miracles? Miracles remind you of God’s power and bring you to trust Him more deeply.
What was Jesus First Miracle?
Jesus first miracle was turning water into wine at the wedding feast in Cana. Read the story in John 2:1-11.
Why Are There No More Miracles Like in Bible Times?
Today, we don’t see miracles such as what happened in Bible times, like Jesus and his disciples healing the blind or raising people from the dead.
The Bible explains that now that Jesus has come to pay the price for our sins on the cross, and we have the Bible to teach and guide us, there isn’t the need for this type of miracle.
Does God Still Work Miracles Today?
God still performs miracles today. While these miracles might be more subtle compared to what we read in Biblical stories, they are still miraculous works of God.
Examples of miracles today include healing the sick, protection from harm, and the greatest miracle, salvation for all people who trust in Jesus as their Savior.
The Bible says that God does not change. The God of the Old Testament is the same God in the New Testament and the same God at work within you as you as you read this.
Do you need a miracle in your life right now? I absolutely believe God is still performing miracles today and will work in your life.
How to See a Miracle in Your Life
Often, what happens in today’s modern world is that people may explain away God’s divine intervention as good luck, fate, karma, or simply saying life worked out.
Yet if you trust in God as your Father, you know that God is working all things for your good (Romans 8:28).
Situations where God intervenes on your behalf are miracles. Do you see it? Ask God to spiritually open your eyes to the ways He is working miracles right now.
Two areas where I have seen God work miracles in my life are with my 100+ pound weight loss and parenting children with special needs.
For as far back as I can remember, I prayed for freedom from food addiction. Even as a small child I was a binge eater and compulsive overeater.
I prayed for God to bring me miraculous healing.
God did bring me a miracle healing from food problems, but not in the way I envisioned (or even wanted). I wanted instant healing and for my food problems to vanish. Instead, God provided me with a slow miracle that happened in baby steps and is still happening today.
With our children, my husband and I adopted children from foster care with a history of trauma, loss, and abuse. Because early trauma impacts brain development, our children have mental health and behavior issues. We have dealt with extreme rages, calling the police regularly, and much more.
I have seen God intervene in miraculous ways as our children struggle to overcome their early challenges. God has protected our children from harm, brought them helpful services when all doors were closed, and given us sweet moments of connection and love.
Are you praying for a miracle? God is still in the business of performing miracles and I believe He will work miracles in your life. Click here for a miracle prayer for weight loss and click here if you desperately need a miracle healing.
Does God Give Financial Miracles?
Are you in need of financial breakthrough? God provides money miracles for His children, but not always in the ways we expect.
Like my slow weight loss miracle, God might have much to teach you about managing your income. God has promised to provide all you need (Matthew 6).
